About

I first encountered yoga and meditation in the 1980's as a college student. Studying Theravada Buddhism, I became fascinated with the philosophy, ritual, and beauty of the Buddhist meditation practice. After graduation I made my way to Thailand for a full cultural immersion. What I found was life altering and thoroughly unexpected: no ready-made answers exist, even in the Theravada Buddhist capital of the world. This seems obvious to me now, but it was life altering at the time and has remained foundational to my ongoing journey. This is perhaps the first lesson any of us encounter before we begin an authentic path toward self.
My career began with restauranturing...what else can one do with a degree in World Religions? The intensely hard work was matched by the free-falling, all-out fun of Cafe Society restaurants in Dallas, Texas, Monterrey, Mexico, and New York, NY. When these businesses were sold, I went to graduate school and then began teaching. For almost twenty years I taught everything from Race/Racism to British Literature. I loved every minute of it. Deep bow to every student I was lucky enough to encounter!
Currently, I teach yoga and meditation as my full time career. My yoga style is interdisciplinary with emphasis on mindful movement and anatomical alignment. I draw from mentors as diverse as Julliard dance instructor Irene Dowd and MBSR pioneer Jon Kabat-Zinn for inspiration. Much of my time is devoted to encouraging students toward a moment-to-moment experience of their own. This work is immensely fulfilling.
I bring a spirit of loving kindness and humor to my own practice and teaching. I have been supremely fortunate to encounter mentors--Jyl Kutsche, Nicole Paseur, Cheri Clampett, Arturo Peal, Lainie Devina--and dear friends along the way that make this life journey profoundly rich, rewarding, and never ending.
